My bubby O”H used to make ‘candy’ for us on pesach… I just made some and I can’t stop eating, but the memories are so strong! I remember how she used to wrap them individually for us, how hard it was to peel the silver foil off the candy, how sometimes you got the foil stuck in your fillings yechhhhhhh! I miss her. I was 5 when she passed away suddenly.
Recipe: Take a ton of sugar and stand over that pot on a medium flame until it caramelizes, like for Yerushalimi kugle. Toss in chopped nuts (roasted first is much yummier) coat evenly. Then, spread the mixture on a pan lined with parchment paper. Cover with another rparchment paper and press down so that it flattens out. Cover your hand with a thick towel,. This is VERY hot!
Refrigerate and when it’s almost cooled, break into squares. Careful, it might still be very hot.
Store in a container on the counter! It will be gone before you clean the pot.

isn't it amazing how an aroma could bring a memory so clear to even a 5 year old child....

Tell me about it. Smells are the most powerful memory inducing sense, I think. Next comes taste, no?
