How do you get boxes in the New York area? I'm checking Craigs List for used ones (some people want like 90% of what they paid for them from over priced places like uhaul and homedepot!) and freecycle.

Wine stores and grocery stores can be great. We also had some good luck with Craig's List (we got for free), so keep checking repeatedly.

Wine boxes are indeed very useful for packing glasses in the compartmentalized sections and seforim with the dividers removed.
I would stay clear of grocery store boxes though - they might be buggy. Try asking around local retail stores to see if anyone will give you their spare boxes.
