I read that too, very interesting points.
the point that having a good relationship and emotional connection to the parents increasing the probability of transmitting beliefs is not new, and its a bit common sense, I think. and that can be empowering. however there is also the danger that now we have someone to blame when things do not turn out so well. specifically, since he mentions how in judaism the more crucial relationship is with the mother, it smacks a bit of the schizophrenegenic mother.
I didnt get the sense that he was pointing fingers, but I think we tend to do that ourselves.
