I am looking for good chapter books for my 8 year old daughter.
She started reading some babysitter little sister books,
but I don't like how they talk about: 'crushes', and 'boy friends'.

Any ideas of clean books (they can be Jewish or secular books)
as long as they are clean and good for beginner readers.

Thanks!

You can use the kosher book list. It gives you ratings for books. It's a great resource.

Suggestions in these kinds of threads are generally good, but very dated. Ramona and Roald Dahl are always good, but Great Brain is a little much for most 3rd graders. Some more current popular titles/series include:

Ivy and Bean series (Annie Barrows)
Clementine series (Sara Pennypacker)
Cupcake Club (Sheryl Berk) or Cupcake Diaries (Coco Simon)
Rescue Princesses (Paula Harrison)
Puppy Place/Kitty Corner (Ellen Miles)
Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew
Lulu series (Judith Viorst)

Fortunately the Milk (Neil Gaiman)
anything by Kate DiCamillo
The Hundred Dresses (Eleanor Estes)
Pippi Longstocking (Astrid Lindgren)

Look up books she likes on Amazon, then scroll down to the "customers who bought this item also bought" section and see what's there. That can be a really good way to find stuff on a similar reading/interest level.

I second the American Girls series. My DD's love/d them. The books follow a formula but each series is built around a different character so they are quite varied in content. For example, one girl is a slave in the South, one is an American Indian, there is a girl from the colonial period, from the Depression era, WWII etc. The books are very clean and wholesome and also very informative.

Try the rainbow fairy series - a bit fluffy but definitely clean and they have a ton of them in my public library.

my ds who is an avid reader enjoys the magic tree house series. I always liked five little peppers and how they grew, but I'm not sure what level that is.

How old is your son? My son is in second grade and I am stocking up on books for him. I got Cam Jansen, Freckle Juice, The Littles, Nate the Great, and Flat Stanley. Is the Magic Tree House a fun read for this age range? What level is it- more advanced than Cam Jansen or less advanced? My son's reading level is M, I believe.

Another vote for the "Fairies" books. There are a ton of series with seven books each so this will last forever. My DD started with Rainbow fairies and is hooked.
