I always assumed it's not allowed, but I see so many people leave their baby swing on over shabbos so they can just put the baby in it without turning it on. Is this allowed? Isn't the swing muktzah?
I would so love to be able to do this..it would mean I actually get some sleep over shabbos!

I've left in on for shabbos for a few kids - even over a 3 day yom tov once.
You leave your lights on, your clock plucked in, your crock pot on ....

I used to have one of those wind up swings that actually used to be DH's, but it finally kicked the bucket last year.
That's true about the crock pot..but I wonder if a swing is different because you have to stop the motion to get the baby in? Please excuse me if my complete lack of halachic logic is showing through

I believe you can leave it on, but have lots of batteries on hand for after shabbos as you will drain your batteries more quickly.

my husband told me that I cant do it since when u put the baby in you r stopping the motor to some extent and then it has to 'restart..' something along those lines... u def can use it with it being off though... if u have any kids a bit older u can make it into an activity- like who wants to push the baby now...? my DS was 2 when I had a baby and he loved pushing it.... until I had to stop him cuz he realized he could have too much fun with it and send the swing flying high!

Not sure, but if you plan on doing it, make sure to get a swing that plugs in! Love mine!

I was told that I could use my swing on shabbos. But I have also heard that there can be an issue with stopping the wing when putting baby in, although my Rav did not mention it. So probably a good question to ask.
