OP here

so when I explained my reasoning to him (that a girl (and he) will miss out on the initial excitement etc) he thought about it and yesterday told me I convinced him out of it. hes hoping to get engaged the week before (maybe "motzei" tanis esther) and then bring MM on purim once they are imh engaged (before getting drunk and wont hang around for very long). I told him MUCH better!

thanks all for your ideas!

I'm a weirdo, I actually like the idea. LOL.
He'll never forget the date Wink (just kidding, I'm the date disabled one)
You'll always iyh do something fun even if you don't really feel like it, no "bing lazy and then regret" going on.
You can do cool themes. Very Happy
Kids will probably like it.
You can even host a mishte where you announce or celebrate or wtv.
It's ok if he has a couple lechaims...

Now, if the guy is the type to be a drunk, that's really something else... THEN NO WAY

Proposing motzai taanit Esther is not a good idea, if she doesn't fast well. And she may not feel comfortable enough at this stage to him that.
