I need new bedding. Comforter set and sheet set. But everything seems so expensive for the quality.
I'm not looking for top of the line, but I don't want sheets I'm going to sweat in.
What should I be looking for (material and thread count), and how much should I expect to pay?

you can go to marshall's and get a cotton sheet set for $20 to $40 each [depending on your size bed]
blankets are a different story - especially if you want duvet covers

What thread count in the sheets would be a decent quality?
Should the sheets be 100% cotton, or cotton / poly blend?
The sheets I'm seeing in the cheaper store feel like plastic.

100% cotton, and they should feel soft. If they don't, keep looking. There are lots of reasonable options on amazon, just read the reviews. Their return policy is great.

never a blend ... never microfibers ... only 100% cotton ... thread counts vary so I would stick with an affordable price ... I would also feel them
buy sale items - not cheap items
look for pima cotton or sateen for a softer feel ...

you can also try bed, bath & beyond ... they always have coupons & sell comforter sets with pillow shams, bedskirts & sometimes linen too
