I just bought a Nikkor 50mm 1.8G lens (the one with the autofocus motor built into the lens) and don't really know how to get clear pictures with it. I tried it out in the store and loved the look of the pictures and I did a lot of research before buying it. I know this is the lens I need. I just seem to be having issues getting clear pictures with it. The depth of field seems to be too shallow. Any tips for using this particular lens? I'm shooting indoors with it, mainly, until the weather warms up.

I don't have experience with that lens. But 1.8 is very shallow depth of field. You will need to work on focusing on the main subject and all else will blur. Also it's not so easy to shoot indoors without flash or strobes. - you need to get near a window and make exposure adjustments as needed.
