Standing, after shutting the toilet seat cover. When you flush micro bacteria/dirt/germs are sent flying into the air. That is why there is a cover that needs to be closed when flushing.

my preference is standing at a safe distance with the cover open so I can make sure the flush isn't overflowing ... then the lid closes to keep the germs inside

I always did this, but now I have to because we have a wall tank and the flush is on the wall almost 5 feet up.

at home, standing with seat covered.
public bathrooms, like at work, standing, flush with my foot. don't want my hand anywhere near the flusher!

was going to post - do you flush with your hand or your foot ... ha
sometimes at home I flush with my foot as well ...

paper towels for hard to reach flushers ... then you open the door [if public rest room] with another paper towel & throw - 3 points if you make the trash can

This is going to be the next number one question on the shadchan's list -does s/ he flush with the seat up or down, and what do they use to touch the flusher handle! And which hand?
I can imagine the complex interpretations placed on the answers......
