I am flying back to London first thing tomorrow morning because my father is now in a very bad situation. Fortunately my kids have food in for the Purim seudah, but they're doing it without me.

In fact, it feels more like Tisha b'Av than Purim right now for me.

Please daven for my father's recovery - even now, where there's life there's hope.

Oy Shosh
Davening for a refua shelema for your dear father.

If your kids want to trek over here on Monday, we would love to have them. Seriously. Ask them, and if they want PM me for my channi's number so yours can call. Sometimes these things are more comfortable for the kids if they are the ones organising.

Thanks for all your good wishes. It seems he's just fading gently away. I have to see him - Mum said he's peaceful and still understands everything. But he just can't swallow anything and nothing helps anymore.

Dear everyone

Thanks for your support. It means a lot.

This is so hard - nothing but nothing prepares you for this. It breaks my heart to see my father, who was once a tall, vigorous, strong man, in such a helpless state. He can't speak, he can't eat, and he is very aware of his situation.

Yesterday I held his hand and stroked his hair, and I told him he's a fighter, that his children and granchildren love him, and that he has to get well. And he's making these sounds and nodding his head. He chooses life, and so do we. His chances are slim, and the hospital is now testing him for a certain muscle condition that is treatable. I'm praying that he has this, because I don't want to tell you what they said the alternative is. This is twilight - but not dusk. Please keep davening for him.

And think of my mother too. Right now, I'm with her. But she's gradually resigning herself to this situation. It's not easy.

Davening here.

Maybe you and your kids can compile some vignettes and memories about him. Let him know the moments that meant the most while he can appreciate the sharing. Iy"H, it will aid his recovery, and if he slips away, there will be comfort in having shared it with him.
