Hi,
I know its sooooo overdue, I just pushed off reading this book for a long time cus I didnt think I could handle it emotionally yet.
Anyway, has anyone here read it recently?
Id love to be able to just "shmooze" abt how Im feeling as I read through it. Im halfway through and just totally overwhelmed with emotions.
Thanks!

I own the book and read it twice. I got different impressions based on my own mindset at the times I read it. I feel it's an important book. I don't know what you want to discuss. start a discussion! I seem to remember a lot of tension in previous discussions of the book, though.

I read this book. I look at it pretty emotionless. I guess that would match with my personality though. I am afraid to make the discussion too heated and have people fail to understand what I am getting across so I will tell you that it is a book that a person has to look at with the right hashkafa. Honestly, if I had a lot more time and money, I would discuss that with a therapist & heimishe daas torah to get most out of it. Not the most for just the book, but to learn how to look at certain things in life and how to interact with people in general, especially about topics like this book's.

I found it very moving, well written in quite a non dramatic fashion, not a load of woe is me self pity, but very disturbing. It was more balanced than I expected, there was positive as well as negative.

Many of my friends and siblings read it when I did. We're not chassidish so it was not too close to home, felt like an important book to read, but we were already very aware of such issues in our own and other communities, so it validated our feelings rather than challenged us.

I can imagine that for those who deny such things, or who are closer to the community she is describing it is a far harder book to read from an emotional point of view.

We had a number of threads about this, if you want to read up on it. They're so old OP's justified in starting a new one, IMO.

you're welcome ...

I don't see how anybody can listen to her talk & not believe all that she is doing is for the 'underworld' to be acknowledged & only then can the world start to heal and keep these things from continuing to happen over & over again ...

kudos to her bravery & everyone who tells their story to bring this awareness to the world !!!
