I don't really understand the big deal with Microsoft not supporting XP; why can't the 3rd party anti-malware programs continue to protect? Do you really need to buy a whole new computer? We have two computers running XP. They don't have enough RAM for Win8. Lots of people don't even like Win8. But Microsoft's official statement is that you either upgrade your OS (at your own expense, no discount for those forced to switch from XP, so what if you're just a little old lady Sunday driver whose 10-year-old computer is like new) or get a new computer.
What's up with this?

Nobody is going to force me to do anything. I don't use all of MS's upgrades anyhow, don't trust em. I may switch to Linux.

But can someone explain why you have to upgrade because Windows isn't doing security updates? Why isn't 3rd-party security good enough? I don't know enough about computers to know all the fine points of this.
