four year old wont sleep in his room

my four year old son is scared to sleep in his room. He is scared of dark, monsters etc. Any ideas? Even if I lay with him he wont stay.

Nightlight? I've never done this but once saw a spray bottle filled with water labeled "monster spray" and let him spray it wherever he thinks the monsters are. Good luck!

yeah I wonder if that's a good idea or not ... but spraying lavender mixed with water would be a good way to get anyone to relax - or lighting a candle with a calming aroma

are the closet doors closed ? what about the dresser drawers ?

make his room kid friendly - with a night light lamp or the door ajar or sing him lullabies - rub his forehead till he calms down [it works for alligators and kittens]

Neither will mine - I have given up - he'll do it when he is ready. It's funny - it bothered me until I admitted to myself that I DON'T LIKE TO SLEEP ALONE EITHER and then I kinda felt like I understood where the little guy is coming from. Smile
