my four year old son is scared to sleep in his room. He is scared of dark, monsters etc. Any ideas? Even if I lay with him he wont stay.

Nightlight? I've never done this but once saw a spray bottle filled with water labeled "monster spray" and let him spray it wherever he thinks the monsters are. Good luck!

yeah I wonder if that's a good idea or not ... but spraying lavender mixed with water would be a good way to get anyone to relax - or lighting a candle with a calming aroma
are the closet doors closed ? what about the dresser drawers ?
make his room kid friendly - with a night light lamp or the door ajar or sing him lullabies - rub his forehead till he calms down [it works for alligators and kittens]

Neither will mine - I have given up - he'll do it when he is ready. It's funny - it bothered me until I admitted to myself that I DON'T LIKE TO SLEEP ALONE EITHER and then I kinda felt like I understood where the little guy is coming from.
