I teach music in a number of Jewish schools. Today, I was in a Chabad school preparing preschool kids for an upcoming pre Shavuos show. The students are from a mix of Chabad families, local frum families, and chiloni Israelis looking for a bargain and a school with a celebration of Jewish holidays.

I announced that we were going to learn a new song today with easy words, a Country Yossi ditty, "It's gonna be the little kinderlach; the little, little, little kinderlach; it's gonna be the little kinderlach that make Moshiach come."

One non frum boy perked up as I began singing. I wondered whether he had attended a Chabad Gan Izzie camp last summer and learned the song. As I drew closer to where he was sitting, I heard him whispering excitedly to his neighbor, "My dad has one!"

"One what?" asked the other boy, echoing my own bemused thoughts.

"A Kindle!" he said.

I had to turn away for several minutes.

I guess we truly do not know what will bring Moshiach. Kindle? Ipad?

P.S. I made sure to explain and translate the word for the rest of the classes BEFORE teaching the song.

For those of us who were raised Xian, you probably remember the song "Bringing in the Sheaves".

For the longest time I thought it was "bringing in the CHEESE"! Then my mom showed me how the word was spelled, and I thought that "sheaves" was the plural of "sheep". Made sense to me.

Hey, I was a city kid, I'd never seen a bundle of wheat stalks in my life! LOL

My son heard "Moshe he'll be called, said Paroh's daughter, for he was taken from the water"
and sang
"Hashem called up Paroh's daughter to take a baby from the water."

Then there was -
We'll fight for the Torah with all of our mice.

my friend posted this on facebook:

R is playing by himself very nicely for a change, and I'm sitting in the next room not really paying much attention to his monologue, until he begins to sing.

"One is Hashemmm"
-ears prick up-
"One is Hashemmmmmm"
-so proud!-
"ONE is Haaaashemmmmmmm!"
-shepping extreme nachus-
"... Aaaaaand a hexagon is earth, and a hexagon is earth."

I decided to go in and help.

"R, those words aren't the right words, do you know what bit was wrong?"
"Yes I do know Ima. -pause- Earth is a sphere."

Nope. Not what I meant actually.

What does ASD mean? autism spectrum disorder?
I really don't think so. He's three, but he's an only child and his mom puts a lot into him.

Wow, smart kid! I was trying to put together the mistake in the words with the geometric knowledge, and was picturing someone much older.

When I was a counselor in day camp, each bunk had a name and a song. One groups name was the "dollies".

"We are the dollies, sweeter than lollies,
we are the best by far.
We've got the STUFF IT TAKES........"

They sang "we've got the SUFFOCATES"

My teaching assistant keeps telling the little ones to cover their mouths when they cough and sneeze so we don't get sick.

She was out last week and a child went home and said Morah was not here today because "she is sick of children."

She was puzzled so the child explained:

You know, when people cough and don't cover their mouths people get sick of them.

Of them, from them... all the same when you're a kid!
