What does this mean in real terms in the ads? What is the going rate for Jewish school secular teachers? Elementary school? High School? Full-day? half day?

IMHO "competitive salary" means absolutely nothing. If you're interested in the position, wait until they tell you real numbers before you decide. They might have a range of salaries that depends on the applicant's experience and qualifications.

I think it means that they toss enough cash for one livable salary in the air in the center of the gym and whatever you manage to catch and hold on to is yours.
