CM, here they test you at school. I was tested at 7 (the IQ does not change as far as I know).

My children were tested to gain admission for yeshivah(kindergarten)

by a psychologist .The results were (very good ). LOL

years ago-

Now they are all in high school and in the honor roll and taking advanced placements courses,

They also started school a year younger than the peers.

what's mensa?
By the way, average is 100, but average range is 85-115, if I remember correctly from my education classes....
also, keep in mind that most average people here might not have had it tested so you can't assume that most imamther members are above average intelligence (though I'm sure most of us are, right??)

It is sad how so many people are so ill informed about IQs.

1. IQ tests have to be done individually and interpreted by specialists to be reliable. This is not done at schools for all children as a general rule.

2. IQs most certainly do change, especially before ages 8-10.

3. The IQ of the whole population gradually rises over the years. So an average IQ done several decades ago would be lower than average today.

All children encountering problems or being very good are tested by a specialist in the first grades. Over the years, most students end up being tested, for example for the professional studies/ intellectual studies choice.

It can go up but not down, according to the specialist who tested me. But I'm too lazy to have mine retested at a specialist.

IQ can certainly go down.

And I highly doubt that anyone on this website, myself included, has IQs above the 125 mark. There might be 1-2 people, but the rest of you mensa genuises must be really doing a great job of disguising yourselves with your posts.

I had a hard time in high school so I had myself tested. I said, if I'm dumb okay, I'lll work with it. Just let me know.

125?? are you kidding?? I'm sure many women here are above 125. It's not THAT huge and incredible. You're not considered a genius at 125.

Or... maybe they have stopped because to test a child's IQ, you need about 2 hours. And another hour to write up the test. And if you multiply that by the number of children you would need to test per school (say 400), you would need, say, 1200 hours. So you would basically have to employ people whose jobs it is to do nothing all day, but test IQs and still they couldn't get done in 180 school days.

For what reason would they do that ?

I never heard this point.
Btw, 100 is always "average"...so if our IQs really rise, they'd restandardize the tests, I imagine....

125 is above 95%. So there might be 5 people out of a 100 on this site who have an IQ of 125. And those 5 people probably have something better to do than to argue about IQs.

And yeah, Ruchel, I still have yet to believe your assertion that Jewish IQs are higher or ashkenazim have an average of 120 or whatever self serving notions you wish to believe.
