I'm considering getting a shellac manicure. this is for a simcha, I rarely get my nails done.
I've heard conflicting opinions about it, can you tell me about it??
thank you all so much!

When you say shellac do you mean gel
Or Vinyl? I love vinyl. Is a regular manicure ( a drop more expensive) that lasts a good week maybe more, and the
Only difference I find is it takes an extra minute or 2 to take off. I hate gel because it takes forever to take Off and I find it damages my nails. If you forget to
Professionally remove it before Mikvah night you're in trouble... (I can say this from experience!)

How strong are your nails naturally? I have very soft nails that tend to come off in layers, and when I had that done it ruined my nails for MONTHS afterwards.

Rabbi said it doesn't have to be taken off for mikvah.

I've had it, and really liked it. You can take it off yourself. Get a nail polish remover with acetone, soak some cotton in it, place that on the nail and wrap the whole thing in foil for ten minutes. Then remove and scrape. Didn't damage my nails (but I don't do it often), and lasted well for two weeks. I think for it to be ok for mikvah it would have to be freshly applied or at least in perfect condition.

The gel look gorgeous. Make sure you go to a place someone recommends.

I had it done one month ago for the first time. it lastet 3 weeks (and would have probably lasted even longer, but it outrgrew already a lot) so I had it removed (you can do it yourself too., there are youtube vidos showing how to remove it at home).
I found it really looked nice, many ppl complimemted me (and I usually dont have nice nails, just regular medium strong nails).
I would definitely do it again if it wasnt so expencive. I think it is a great alternative to gel, which causes mikva issues 8ask you LR, I think it realla depneds where u r coming from and who you ask).

I like the shellac but it weakens my nails so I only get it once in a while.

I love gel/shellac.
For a simcha it looks beautiful. shiny and perfect.
Definitely worth it. It does take a bit longer to take off but if you do it right (soak it etc) it is easy.

I tried it once. It lasted six days. Total waste of money.

I used to get shellac redone every 2-3 weeks and my nails always looked perfect. I can't keep a regular manicure long enough to even get out of the salon! But when I stopped doing it, my nails did take some time to recover their natural shine and strength.
