Wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured this spot would be ok. As we have been saying different perakim of tehillim over the past few weeks, I wonder how the Rabbanim choose which perakim to say. For example- I wonder why we are not saying perek 140 as it mentions the words chamas several times. Is there a book that explains what perek to say for which situation.
Thanks!

It's a great question!

There are some sifrei Tehillim that give a short explanation of what each perek is relevant to in the beginning.

But the real best way to understand these things is to systematically learn Tehillim with several Perushim. I learned Rashi and the Shelah on Tehillim and it really helped. The Radak is amazing too.

Artscroll has a very nice two-volume set IIANM. I went through it once some years back. I should probably do it again.

Meanwhile during the search I said the prakim suggested by the Moetzes. Now I am bli neder saying the yom and hoping to complete each month. There are so many relevant pesukim everywhere you look.

It says that David haMelech was the lev of all Klal Yisroel and put into his writing the all the feelings that would need to be expressed. So just keep going - it's all good.

Hineh lo yanum velo yishan Shomer Yisrael.
