Dh and I are going on vacation without kids. Specificities for our hotel was 2 beds in the room (because we might be ossur), a balcony (this is very important to dh) in a nice affordable hotel. After scouring the internet we ended up with...a hotel in Atlantic City (off the beach).
Is that a doable vacation for a frum couple? What is there to do there? Boardwalk we can only go to at night when pritzus calms down a little. Mixed swimming is out and so are the casinos. Is there anything else we can do there in the summer or should we head back to the drawing board? Any other suggestions for vacation spots under 4 hours drive from ny?

No offense (really, quite the contrary) but if you're referring to it as pritzus, it doesn't sound as if AC would be a good fit for you.

Was going to say.

It doesn't sound like Atlantic City is for you.
The attractions there are mainly the beach, boardwalk and casinos.
If you will not be doing that and I am assuming not watching TV in the room, you will probably be bored most of the time unless you drive out and try find attractions nearby.

Definitely not AC. All the fun things to do there sound like you wouldn't be doing them so what's the use. How about the Poconos, Newport RI, etc.

Advantages of AC over other beach areas is there alot of hotels and easier to find reasonable rates.
There are minyamin and a pizza shop and a fleishig place that I think has a good hechsher ( obviously, everyone holds differently).
There are places on the beach further down from AC that are emptier.
I've gone to AC a few times and never went into a casino or on the busy part of boardwalk.
We just enjoyed the water in other places and liked the fact that there was food and minyanim around.
There is also outlet shopping there.

Check this site. http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/

It will give you an idea of what there is to do in the area. The good thing about AC is that there are a couple of kosher restaurants nearby. The pizza place is really good. IMO.

no offense taken superdanni, thanks for the candid replies everyone. Feeling a little bit of a shame to let go of such a nice hotel for such a great price (in a place with kosher restaurants and minyanim), are there things to do in the vicinity of AC? Or things to do on the drive down from/up to NY? Otherwise, guess I'll head back to the drawing board.

Would you go to any kid/ type amusements during the day? Concerts at night? Would you drive to another beach that's less crowded and so more private ? Are you interested in touring around the area! Did you check out the hotel well?
Otherwise, you might want to consider the other places mentioned.

Honestly, if you're not going to the casinos or the boardwalk, there are lots of other vacation spots to go to. Much nicer ones. Keep looking is my advice.

If by kid/type amusements you mean mini golf, gokarting etc. then yes. Concerts at night are no. As far as the beaches, we were thinking of walking on the boardwalk at night when we assumed it gets better? or is that a bad assumption?
What type of touring can we do in the area? That would be of interest.
Thanks!

If you go to the boardwalk in Ventnor/Margate (next to Atlantic City), you likely won't see much "pritzus" even daytime. Mostly retired people and little kids playing on the beach.

The boardwalk is nice up until before the casino area, where it gets seedy. But around Ventnor you can admire lovely houses, enjoy the ocean and breeze.

In Margate, you can tour Lucy the Elephant. I've heard Ocean City is nice but haven't been. My husband uses to go to the amusement park as a kid.

The pizza shop is simple but very good.

Atlantic City has a tour of the lighthouse. Blue Mercury is a nice Spa in the Tropicana. There is an excellent milchag resturant - Bubby's. Everything is made fresh to order. IMO it has the best food at any milchag resturant I ever ate in. The Boardwalk is no worse than any trip to Walmart. I enjoy the beach early in the morning before the swimming hours at 10 a.m. I don't drink or gamble and I am never bored. There are push wheeled carts on the boardwalk. You can try your hand at fishing.

Why would you go on a vacation with DH and no kids when you are a niddah?

My husband and I run AtlanticCity.com, there are a lot of nice things to do there. Beach, shopping. Our parnassa is dependent on hotel bookings Wink which rates are as good as anyone else. The Tropicana is closet to shuls, and there are a few kosher restaurants within 10 minutes. Lots of shopping on The Walk .

I don't remember, but nothing special - we usually stay in basic chain motels when we go anywhere.

Could you please list the kosher restaurants that are 10 mins from the tropicana ?

Bubbie's is a pizza place with some other interesting foods. I liked their garlic grilled cheese, they had fish and chips, and really tasty pizza. They also serve breakfast.

Burger.org is a burger place with lots of types of burgers, shwaarma, fish. The different locations may have different things, I am not sure. I tend to order the same burger whichever one I go to.
http://burgerorg.com/

I have never eaten at this one, and am not 100% sure it's still there. Call to check.

Jerusalem Glatt Kosher Restaurant

The burger place is not in Atlantic City but nearby.

I have eaten in Jerusalem Glatt. They are very accommodating and sell baked goods. The food is OK. I usually get the schnitzel. There is a breakfast restaurant on the same block. My husband brings back food from there after dovening. I look forward to Bubbie's. I get the stuffed flounder.
