Need ideas about what to make for Shabbat! I am having 6 people over (!!) and they're big eaters. One of them is very, very allergic to eggs- and I can't have anything on the table with eggs in it. I don't have time to go to the kosher grocery store for anything meaty, either.

I'm making parve cholent, but what else can I make that is inexpensive and hearty? TIA!

Is this for Friday night or Shabbos lunch?

The only thing I ever use eggs for on shabbos is kugel or desserts. It's simple to make other starches other than kugel - potatoes, rice, pasta, grains...

Oh, I just remembered that mayo contains eggs. Check if that's a problem for your guest.

Also, what are you planning on using for lechem mishna?

I'm not making anything with regular mayo, but I can use vegennaise (an egg-free mayo). Using matzah for lechem mishnah. Any specific, good, summery ideas for starches? I don't just want to do roast potatoes.

quinoa salad
bean salad
wild rice salad
potato salad (try with pesto instead of traditional mayo dressing)
wheat berry salad
couscous/orzo/pasta salad (if you can find pasta made without eggs)

Noticing a theme? LOL

For something really different, try this: Roasted Sweet Potato Salad with Black Beans.

Sushi salad - just make it with sushi rice and lots of veggies like cucumbers, avocadoes, peppers and some fake crab if you feel like it. Dressing is soy sauce and rice vinegar.

This is my first post on this message board! Hi!!

I would consider serving hearty salads - bean salad, tabboule, rice with chopped fresh herbs, hummus, baba ganoush, that sort of thing.

Good Shabbos!
