I'm trying to start FRUMBA or kosher zumba in my community.

I am a licensed ZIN zumba instructor but I would love to get into this market. I want to know:

what do you expect in a FRUMBA class?

What music is used (please be specific)? please name the songs and artist if you can

Do you know any real FRUMBA/ kosher zumba instructors that I can get in touch with?

your help is a tremendous chessed to me and the women in my community.

thank you!

You know what would make great music for a Jewish Zumba class? The dance music the Breslov na nachs play from their vans. Smile

If I were to sign up for a kosher class I would NOT want spanish music with words and would not want jewish music (who wants to move their body like that to the tune of modeh ani lifanecha...). everything else would be fine with me.

maybe I should clarify that I don't intend to use "hip" movement at all to the jewish music

I mean- totally kosher classes

Then what makes it zumba, as opposed to regular aerobics?

The most important factor for me is a teacher, who teaches the steps and makes sure I am using the right form, ie tightening my core muscles, keeping my chin up, shoulders relaxed, etc.

Spanish words never bothered me, because I have no idea what it means.
I prefer instrumental to Hebrew or English words, this way, I sing the step moves, not the lyrics.

exactly... v hard to keep it latin w.o hip movement. I love straight-up Zumba but I see a huge market for this.
I think it's a lot of just jazz and aerobics which is boring for me.
oh well

yeah singing the lyrics. very um esoteric

I wouldexpect music with a Latin feel to it, probably with Spanish (or maybe Portuguese) lyrics, although I suppose it could be in other langages (incl. English) too.

I would expect the lyrics to be "clean," no matter what the language.

I would expect hip movements. Otherwise, how exactly is it "Zumba"?

Let's be really honest, ladies
Is that ok ? Smile

Zumba comes from African avoda Zara

What's wrong with good old fashioned aerobics
When I was single I went to living well lady and another gym on kings highway and coney and it was perfect

Why the constant need to be more fake frum and more non jewish at the same time

Um, no, it doesn't. It was created by a Colombian guy in the 90s as a dance/aerobics fitness program. Roots in salsa dancing. Latin all the way through.

A dance instructor/group popular among Jewish community where I live offers Frumba classes but they are actually IDENTICAL to simcha dancing (music, moves).

Personally I thought that was a bit misleading. It would have been clear if they described what kind of music and movements are used in their program leaflet.

The jewish zumba classes I'm aware of all use zumba moves just with different music. I don't think you can market yourself as zumba if you won't be doing any!

African avoda zara? Are you for real? The music is south american, not african. African music sounds VERY different.

I go to classes run by this lady who is frum http://www.dancingwithlouise.co.uk/

Her frumba classes are Jewish music and Jewish dances ie simcha dancing done to a faster beat (she rerecords the music to make it faster) for exercise.

Her zumba ones are a mixture of Spanish, English and Hebrew songs.

I hope that helps.

Where are you located? Shimi Adar in Flatbush has Zumba classes. I haven't been, don't know what they're like.

Since latin music is great for zumba I would say sefardic music would be good for frumba (is this a new word? never heard of it before!).

Think itzik eshel, chaim israel, eyal golan.
If you want specfic songs I can tell you my favorite home-style-zumba-dance-around-the-kitchen favorites.
