An almost 3 yo is showing signs of ADHD. Impulsive, hurts other kids. He was evaluated last year by the ps system they said he was ok. What should the next step be? TIA.

Take him to a pediatric neurologist. Even if it is real ADHD, they will be unlikely to medicate such a young child. However with a diagnosis at least you know what you're dealing with.

I'm of the belief to wait until you are ready to medicate. Why go through the whole process when you're not going to do anything about it anyway? It costs money and your time. Certain ADHD like behaviors in toddlers will go away with maturity. It's really hard to diagnos at this point, unless you have a real family history. Don't jump into this confusing world of evaluations an diagnosises until you need to. So much will change in how it manifests itself over the next few years. Be patient and loving. Good luck. And hopefully it will turn out to be better than you think!!

Why does it have to be about medication? The child should be eligible for behavioral help, perhaps a counselor and shadow working together to carry out a plan for reducing his harmful behavior. Perhaps OT if indicated, because many children have problems in more than one area, it doesn't always but can come together. How long ago last year was he evaluated? If it was long enough that you can request another evaluation, this time go all out to have his teachers describe how the behaviors interfere with his participation in class.
