Some relevant facts about pertussis from the cdc.gov:

While it can sometimes feel good to focus on and blame one factor -- unvaccinated children -- pertussis transmission is so much more complex than that. DTaP is only 80-90% effective, it only provides full immunity for a very limited number of years (which means that most adults are not immune and therefore can and do spread pertussis), most cases are mild and look like a bad cold for which most people don't quarantine themselves, leading to further transmission... Pertussis is really not the disease to blame on the unvaxed child population, as the CDC confirms.

True. Tho to b clear, the cdc recommends the Dtap.....
A poster sarcastically mentioned something about believing the media who tells u about pertussis outbreaks, but just wanted to point out that the outbreaks r real.

Its been fun, lol. But I've got to get back to real life now. I wish you and your family good health. Since you asked, here's some info about pertussis.

A) Who dies from pertussis?

During 2012 48,277 cases of pertussis (in the US) were reported to the CDC. There were 20 deaths. The majority of deaths occurred among infants younger than 3 months.

http://www.cdc.gov/pertussis/o......html

B) Is the pertussis vaccine safe?

When determining vaccine safety no long term studies have been done on any vaccine. The CDC states, "tracking vaccinated children for many years looking for long-term health conditions would be impractical: withholding new vaccines from children who would benefit from them while long term studies were being done would be unethical."

U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Center for Disease Control & Prevention, Parent's Guide to Childhood Immunizations, (page.43)

The pharmaceutical package inserts for dtap vaccine (pg 11) states the following. "Adverse events reported during post-approval use of Tripedia vaccine include... SIDS, anaphylactic reaction, cellulitus, AUTISM, convulsions/grandmall convulsion, encephalopathy... Events were included in the list because of the seriousness or frequency of reporting."

http://www.fda.gov/download/Bi.....0.pdf

C) Why is there an increase in the number of pertussis cases in vaccinated populations?

Reason 1:
The FDA isn't sure why the vaccine is failing. ...."We are optimistic that more research on pertussis will lead to the identification of new and improved methods for preventing the disease."

Reason 2:
Research has shown that vaccinated individuals can become asymptomatic. Meaning they can become infected with pertussis but have no symptoms. An asymptomatic individual can infected everyone around them without knowing it.

That varies by local. My regions VAX rate has dropped in step with the increased pertussis rate.

1. Amother in vaccine development - you are amazing! Cool, rational and seemjngly unfazed by the ongoing assault which gets pretty vitriolic. Plus you explain things beautifully. I'm a big fan! Not worthy Salut Applause

2. Googling around, I've ofund a great new science blog with lots of fun quack dissection to follow, so thanks for that!

3. Wow, Mayer Eisenstein takes quackery and bad practice to another level, plus his financial dealings are well, fraudulent would be the polite way to describe them. Yet another one for quackwatch.

Oy. If this is all ur research from 5 years of researching, I think u need to go and do more homework.

I don't want to do ur homework for u, but ur 'research' contains incomplete facts, outdated info, and omission of facts as well. Did u even read the links u posted?!

(and just ftr, if u dont believe the cdc and fda, y r u trying to use them for support?)
