OK, here's a challenge for all you style mavens out there:

I need to put together a professional but stylish look. I bought this black pencil skirt in tall, so it falls just below my knees. I plan to wear it with thin sweaters or loose blouses (untucked). http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....24002

I am short, slightly overweight, and have especially wide muscular calves. Oh and I absolutely hate my fat ankles.

I need to find shoes that go with a black pencil skirt and top, that don't make my calves/ankles look huge. If I wear ankle booties to cover my ankles, my legs get chopped up and calves look huge. If I wear flats, my calves and ankles look huge. Most knee-high boots don't fit my calves. I can't win Sad

I am willing to wear nude or colored pantyhose.

Any type of shoes and any color would go with a black pencil skirt. If I were you, I would go to a store a try different pairs until I find something comfortable that I like.

Did you seriously just shake your finger at me? Skirt length is not was I was asking for advice on, but thanks.
(And just FYI, there are plenty of extra inches for sitting, etc. I bought the tall version and I am 5'1".)

What I need fashion (not halachic) advice on is style of shoe.

I hope you realize it was tongue in cheek

How about this shoe or some lower heel variation:

I wear this kind of shoe at work because it's too stressful for me to march around in real heels all day.

How about a nice pair of court shoes?

I typed in court shoes into google and Debenhams came up. These are all nice I think Smile

I have a pair of black suede Anne Klein pumps (low heeled w/ comfort insoles) but I can't find the link to them online so here is a comparable looking pair:http://www.zappos.com/tahari-fressia-black

I love this look - low heeled, stylish pumps w/ pencil skirts and jacket/sweater combos. Just seems more ladylike than ankle boots and definitely more professional… I would note that these heels would look nice if you have muscular calves because they won't make you teeter while walking or flex your muscles significantly while standing but they will emphasize your shape (so it's better than a flat, which can look dumpy and unprofessional.)

Final note - I, too, am short and slightly over-weight so I say this from my own experience. I find that flats make me look heavier, while high heels make me look like I can't walk properly so the only option left for work is a low heel pump, which is why I recommended the one above. I have a number of pairs very similar. The pointy-toe, if your foot can handle it, makes for a more feminine look whereas square toe just seems more masculine. With thicker legs, feminine seems to emphasize them better than square toe heels.

Good luck!

You can do a search on say Zappos or DSW for wide calf boots. Zappos actually has wide calf and extra wide calf:

Another idea might be heels in a nude color to visually elongate the leg. I've read that this is a fashion industry trick.

Whatever is black looks smaller than whatever isn't black. You might as well wear black tights or stockings or hose with a black matte shoe. Meaning, a fabric, microfiber shoe, or a black suede shoe.

I would avoid all patterns or stripes on the leg. Matte tights. But it's still warm out. So, whatever weight hose you use in this weather, but match the skirt, hose, shoes so a long lean line is going on, a continuous line.

A bit of heel would be good, if you don't find it uncomfortable, but not so much heel that your feet become interesting. You don't want people thinking a lot about your feet; that shortens people. You want to keep their eyes high up.

A wedge is an interesting idea, good going up there!

If the skirt is tight-ish people are going to think about that end of you. If you aren't crazy about it, don't make them think about it: loosen the fabric a little, so it all smooths out. You want matte, and smooth, and all the same color.

Keep interest high with beautiful hair and earrings.

From what you describe I think you will do better with black legs than beige ones.

Black is so standard-issue that you will get away with it nicely, which is what you want. You don't want focus below the waist, from what you say. No interesting belts.

Please, if possible, no little details on the shoes. If possible, no bows, little designs, patent leather details, buckles. As little as possible.

Yes, beige legs with beige spectator shoes which are beige with black patent leather tips do indeed lengthen the leg. But, they do call attention to the foot.
Your call.
