My son is going to Yeshiva in Israel and he needs an unlocked universal cell phone . What is that? Can I unlock a phone I already have? Does anyone know where I can get one?

You can unlock a cell phone you already have - I bought a phone from tmobile, and they unlocked it for me.

A bachur we know just came to israel with what he thought was his unlocked iphone, and lo and behold it doesnt work. Dont count on unlocking any phone you have, it may not be so simple. He spent over an hour on the phone with AT&T, tried resetting his phone, and countless other thing and still hasn't gotten it to work.
If he is going to have a kosher phone you can get a decent phone for not so much money in Israel. Or buy online before you come but make sure it is already unlocked.

you can buy a phone that comes unlocked already.
search for "unlocked cell phone" on amazon or best buy (or anywhere really).
