ok I will save this as a last last resort but hoping I wont have to use it. I tried this once and it did not work she just kept getting more and more upset and I finally just gave up, its too hard for me to hear her so upset. but I dont think I will need to do this anyway

I agree.
so when DS went to a babysitter this past month (usually my mother takes him) the babysitter did some CIO/controlled crying by his naps (DS no longer needed my finger, but he did want me there). The babysitter let him cry for 10 minutes and if he wasnt sleeping then she would hiold him like he was used to. within a week he was going down for naps by himself and barely crying at all. and now I can put him to sleep and walk out and at most he gives one or two cries and then goes to sleep. (thats after nursing, singing and putting him into his crib)

It did not work because you gave up, that's all. You have to be firm about it and yes it IS heartbreaking to hear a baby cry and deliberately not going into him, but keep in mind it's for his own good. Just like him getting shots and taking yucky medicine and wearing braces etc.

I guess ur lucky u didnt have to be the one to hear him crying.

personally though, I prefer to use other methods of sleep training than cio/controlled crying but I understand that it works for others. I am trying to avoid it though. she has already improved so much in the past week since we started doing pick up put down- beforehand we woud be rocking her all night to go to sleep and she was going to sleep so late, now she is going to sleep around 7:15 and it only takes her about 10 min to fall asleep Smile

oh yeah I am LOL . otherwise I would still be tied down to his room every night till he is ASLEEP. the past could weeks have been so nice!

I did not do CC at all with my 1st DS. with him I was able to do it more slowly and I did. (he did cry in my or DH's arms when I night weaned him by extinction tho- for 2 nights)

now I put the baby to bed, leave for 10/15 min while I do bedtime books with my 3yo in my room or on the couch and then we move to his bed where I sing him songs, sit for 2 more min and then my night is DONE! (or just starting lol) before it could be a good half hour or more till he finally fell asleep and I could leave the room.

Yay! It's such a nice feeling getting ur baby to go to sleep easily after having a hard time with it. And to finally have the night to yourself and dh Very Happy

Is it a bad idea to use the "lovey" that I have if it makes noise when u shake it? Should I use something else?

If you don't have another lovey and are desperate enough, you can pick open the stitching & remove the noisy part (or muffle w/ s/t) and then sew it back up!

If I knew how to sew I would do that! I don't even own a needle and thread
