My 9 yr old dd told me she likes to snap elastics on her wrist. It feels good, the little pain, she says. She scratches her skin when she's upset. She yells im gonna kill myself. And you hate me.
Is this normal drama for the age or a sign of something more serious beggining?

The elastic thing is a bit odd, but on its own wouldn't worry me too much (unless it persisted for years). But talking about killing herself and saying that you hate her would definitely be cause for concern to me. These are not normal thoughts/phrases for a 9 year old (and saying "I'm going to kill myself") isn't normal for anyone.

I would definitely have her evaluated, just to be on the same side.

Good luck. And big hugs to you. Dealing with our children's issues like this is tough tough tough!

Definitely get her evaluated. Also don't react or talk about it when she says things like that until you get the proper professional guidance.

Don't panic. We never know when our kids might be mimicking things they heard elsewhere or just being dramatic, but there is enough going on that an evaluation is in order IMO.
