I need to buy a car seat for an almost 2 year old. Any recommendations? I don't want to spend more money than I have to.

What is important to you- easy to install, lightweight, narrow, compact front to back?
What are his height and weight?
Offhand, good seats under $100 that work for many people are evenflo sureride and safety first guide 65. Those seats generally last a long time and aren't especially bulky.

It's going to be staying in the car, so I don't really care so much about anything specific. I think he's average size for his age.
In general, how long would a kid fit in the carseats you mentioned? (age-wise)
And is one more comfortable than the other?

a quick google shows they both have the same weight requirement and sureride goes to 54" and the safety first to 52"
so pretty similar all in all. dunno what age that would translate too tho...

The sureride will last longer. For a kid of average height, I would guess until around age eight?
You probably know that the current recommendation is to keep kids rear facing until a minimum of age two, and preferably longer (as long as the seat allows). The sureride will allow you to keep kids rear facing for a while.
