Anybody remember the words? So far I have...
Editing to add a few more lines.
One fine Thursday afternoon Late one Friday afternoon...Rivky helped her mother
Polishing the candlesticks, Just one but not the other.
The first one shone so very bright, she cleaned the bottom, too.
But the second candlestick, she was too tired to do.
It was time to set the table, with the nicest things they had.
But the tarnished candlestick was oh! so miserable and sad.
There beneath the challah cover, the challos crisp and brown,
Said, what is wrong with you today, you look so very down?
There in the crystal bottle, red wine did agree,
I never saw the candlestick in such a misery.
They saw the door swing open, then her Mommy came inside,
and looked at the Shabbos table, would she be real satisfied?
She looked at the kiddush cup, and at the kiddush wine,
and at at the well-baked challos that smelled just so divine.
She looked at the candlesticks, first one, then the other
Then she knew what she must do, for she was a smart mother.
She said, Rivky, please come here, and polish this just so
when Rivky polished very hard the candlestick did glow.
Ah, said the candlestick, you've given me a thrill,
When the Shabbos Malka comes, I'll shine, I know I will.
(DD wanted me to sing it for DGS, who, it turns out, only did one. But, it was his first time polishing silver so DD did the other one for him. What was up with Rivky's mother, anyhow?
And who understands the lesson? Don't be lazy? Finish your jobs? What if it was too much for a child her age?
Now let's analyze Rockabye Baby?)
