my son's school is doing a field trip this week.

It's a new school for us, with new techiques. My son is having issues adjusting as is, this outing seems to be upsetting him also

I loved outings as a student, so I asked him what is the issue.

He said, "It's going to be 95 degrees outside, why are we going to an outside event?!"

I cannot argue with that, it's hot where we are.

I said, "what else?"

He said, "the other kids have issues and I am fairly certain they will ruin the outing, just like they ruin gym and other activities. I do not want to hang out with these kids."

I understand what he is saying also, it seems majority of the kids at his new school have social issues and learning issues. The school is Montessori, I loved Montessori, but this school seems to attract all the kids with issues. I am at a loss of what to do, we are looking for other options, time will tell.

Don't make him go. The less he interacts with these kids the better off he is. Just make sure he has normal neighborhood friends to socialize with.

There's nothing wrong with him being in an integrated class, provided that 1. He has some peers on his developmental level whom he enjoys being with and 2. The teachers are trained and have experience in educating both typical children as well as those with different needs, and can successfully integrate the two groups.

Under those circumstances, a typical child has a lot to gain from being an an integrated group. You can use this as an opportunity to teach him appropriate techniques for managing his feelings about the trip, as well as handling various disappointments that may crop up during the trip.

However, if you feel that the setting is entirely inappropriate for him, by all means keep him home.
