Thawed Chicken

Hi!
I defrosted wayyyy to much chicken breast today (I totally calculated wrong), can I just re-freeze it? If not, how long will it last in the fridge? I usually throw out any unused meat after 24hours of defrosting, I would much rather save it if I could.
Also someone told me that I should never defrost meat/chicken on the counter and only in the fridge, is this true??

You can cook it and then freeze the cooked chicken.

Yes to cooking and then refreezing. Yes--only thaw in the fridge not on the counter (due to bacteria growth).

another question, someone told me if you marinate it, it extends "the life" of the chicken, if this were true, can I marinate it and then refreeze (it raw)?

It you marinate it, it extends the life of the raw chicken, ie. you can keep the raw chicken in the fridge longer.

But I do not know about re-freezing it again while still raw.

Why not marinate the extras you have now so you can make a whole new dish to serve tomorrow?

The usda says if it was defrosted in the fridge it can be refrozen but it will not be the same quality.
