We're looking for a heimish community out of NY where we can raise our children not in a cookie cutter mold or one size fits all theory and where the weather is nice.
La - is too expensive
Chicago and Baltimore - weathers are not good
Miami - don't know if there are any Shtreimel wearers there
Atlanta - ??
Houston - ??

Anyone living in those communities can you share your viewpoint if a shtreimel wearer would 'fit in' or not.

I don't live in miami but have visited. There is a khal chasidim shul in nmb for heimish style tho I'm not sure how many shtreimels live there all year. The community seems to be very friendly and accepting and I know ppl that send to yeshiva elementary that are super happy with the chinnuch. A lot of chasidim migrate there winter and pesach. I don't think too many oot communities have shtreimels tho a few will have a brave one here or there that moved in.

That's somewhat of an exaggeration. Yes, there is a 1 year old chassidish kollel here with 12 yungerleit, plus a few assorted mechanchim, rabbonim and a few others, but that's it. I doubt if there are 20 shthreimlach here in total and I don't see it increasing particularly beyond this.

what type of shtreimel wearer is your dh? there's all types. do you want your kids should talk yiddish? does your dh need a chassidish shul? do your kids wear curly payos? I have a brother who wears a shtreimel and has zero with chassidus and a sister who married a shtreimel wearer who is in israel every yomtov by the rebber and marries off their kids by 18.. according to the info you give it would be easier to pinpoint which type of community would work for you

Houston?

Houston - humid X humid to the power of humid.
NMB (north Miami beach) - LOTS of BP transplants ( read: tuna beigels ) - with streimals - weather is great! (In the winter)
Atlanta- I dunno. No striemals to my recollection. Also humid there.
FL might be your best bet.

NMB is HOT HOT HOT!!! Shtreimel wearers could seriously pass out on the way to shul. Remember, shtreimels were invented for the Polish winter.

Aren't colder climates better for shtreimel wearers?

Chicago and Scranton make more sense than Miami and Houston....
