I live in Brooklyn, NY and insurance is Child health plus.
DC had surgery a few months ago. Generally this surgery is done as an outpatient although depending on age and reason for need of the surgery the Dr may keep patient overnight. DC needed to be kept overnight and the decision was made well in advance of the surgery. I was told all necessary preauthorzations would be handled by the dr and hospital and I do not need to worry about it.
Recently, I got a letter from the insurance saying that the overnight stay was denied. Seems like the hospital apealed the decision but the insurance is sticking to it.
Can the hospital come after me for whatever the insurance is not paying at this point?

yes they can charge you ... but you could also fight it making a formal complaint - both to the hospital who said they got it pre--approved and to the insurance company who refuses to hear the doctor's recommendation
