My 2YO DC has been waking up 1 to 2 times nightly. DC will cry for 2 minutes or so and then go back to sleep after either me or DH soothe DC.
My question is, is it normal for a child at this age to have such frequent nightmares?
I have read that changes in a child's life may result in nightmares. There has been a few changes, but the nightmares were going on long before.
Any tips or advice?
TIA!

It could be night terrors rather than nightmares.

Night terrors? I always thought those were much more severe. Such as screaming, hyperventilating, etc. My DC is just crying for two minutes.
Are you assuming it is night terrors due to the frequently?
If it is indeed night terrors, that makes me all the more concerned

I believe it's normal for a 2 year old to cry once or twice a night. As long as he/she doesn't scream for hours. You should be able to tell if something is wrong.

Sounds reasonably normal. If she's resettling after 2 min, I wouldn't worry.
Night terrors are usually seen in older kids and they are not aware/soothable at the time, iirc.

Your dc might have pinworms. Sometimes they cry out at night because of the discomfort- itchiness.

Thanks everyone for the input.
Has any mom ever had their DC go through this? Nightly crying spells that last a few short minutes? Have you found anything to be helpful?
