I used four. My friend was in a store and saw a woman use a whopping 900 CARDS!

(Yup, that's $27,000. Not a typo. Who even has 900 cards??)

I also used 4. I was stuck in a line behind a guy who was swiping one card after another for about 35 minutes! the rest of the people in line were going crazy... that was not htoughtful of him. Eventually the store owner told hm to stop and he could do one more card after each shopper.

Wow! What is the minimum payment due on $27,000?

And how does she deal with the 100+ bills that need to be paid?

The bigger question is how is their credit rating? The more cards one has the worse it is. The $27,000 is free money that the cardholder is entitled to use in the store in which he redeemed his gift certificate ($30/card).

I had 4 cards between myself & my husband & that made me happy enough to get $120 of FREE money. There was a guy on line with 170 cards which I thought was excessive.

I guess we should not judge others but it's hard not to when ppl. seem to be taking advantage of the system. I wonder if Amex will be able to continue the SBS program with all these ppl. taking advantage. I do hope so though b/c it's nice for me & I don't think we take advantage like some of the others with 100+ cards.

Don't they shut down accounts like that? I'm actually nervous for these people if they get stuck footing the bill themselves.

My $180 made me happy enough, thank you.

Is it possible that ppl give their cards for their school/shul/local org. to use in lieu of a donation? (Charge my card for $20 for shul stuff at the hardware store and I'll only havta pay for $10... Charge $20 for food for poor families that you will distribute...)

No idea if that would be legal, but the point is that we must be missing some information. It simply doesn't make sense that one person has that many cards.

PPl open Amex cards as a business. They get points, benefits, whatever, open them for other ppl, etc. I am not saying this so ppl come out to bash, judge, debate the legality and give opinions, rather to INFORM the masses... The ppl who have hundreds of cards are not in huge personal debt. This is how they make money. No opinion rendered (by me Smile

I was in a store yesterday and the cashier told me a man had come in with 250 cards. I thought that was a lot. He had let them know a few days before that he was planning to do this, so they were prepared.

My dh told me that a friend of his owns a large business and all of his employees have company amex cards. He made them all give in their cards so that he could use them on sbs. I guess he pays the bills, so he felt like he should be the one to gain, but it still seems ridiculous to me.

glutenless- your story I hear. the question is people who actually open all those cards- it takes time to do that, how does it compare to how much they would earn if they worked during that time?

I don't know why amex would care about which cards get used for SBS. They cap registration at a certain point and there really is no difference to the store owners, who are the ones benefitting. The whole thing is really just a marketing tool for amex anyway.... (Disclaimer: between me and my husband we had a grand total of three cards)

People are adding additionals into their account using fake names and getting around giving a social security number I won't say how just for sbs and other promotions . It's not honest and eventually they will get caught. 900 cards, come on do you really think so many people have that many employees. Of course it's not honest.

I actually do know ppl that have made up names or have used peoples real names and bdays without social security numbers... without telling them! and that still could have a bad effect on them even without their socials... and if any of these people that r playing all this shtick ever get financially reviewed they would have to provide socials for all their cardholders... and if they cant- all their accounts will be shut down...
