Money is pretty tight right now, but my sister will be making a bar-mitzvah iy"H when my baby will be about a month old and it looks like me and baby will be making the trip by ourselves. At this point there is a choice of a direct flight out of a further away airport or a flight to a nearby city and taking a bus. The direct flight is about 2x the price. (Talking $220 vs. $450). What to do? Is it worth the expense to have a less hassle trip?

How long will each option take, door to door?

Only you know your baby and your financial situation. Flying these days even with a baby is challenging, and with a baby it can be a nightmare. And then connecting to a bus with baby and luggage. If there's a major time savings involved (I'm confused because you said the non-stop flight is from a farther away airport), I would probably try to take the more expensive, direct route.

The non-stop flight is out of Newark, and I live in NY. Baby isn't born yet.
