What's a professional organizer?

I admit to being clueless here.

Someone who will help you organize.
For example organize a toy closet. Find a place for everything. Label. Take an after picture and post on the door so you can re-create.

This was a few years ago, so I don't know if prices changed. But I was told $50 for a consultation and $35 per session after that. And depending on your house can require a lot of sessions. (Hope I'm remember this correctly as I never actually hired her for various reasons.)

my neighbor (OOT, not Lakewood) charges 50/hr, but she is GOOD. I imagine it would be around the same.

just wondering about this topic... let's say I hire a professional organizer and she makes my house look great---- what would motivate me to maintain it if it is hard for me to keep things in order? I'm sure after a while things would get cluttered again - no?

Some professional organizers also deal with time management issues — which would help you to maintain order.

The best professional organizers help you develop systems in your home that work for you.
They don't just come and re-shuffle your clutter.

On a related note, does anyone know if there are professional courses for this kind of thing or are these people self-made?

There is a pro organizers' website: http://www.napo.net/
Here's a link to FAQ concerning their certification requirements: http://www.napo.net/our_profession/

I know that some people in this field are self-taught.

Hi,
I am a P.O in lakewood Smile
no re-shuffling clutter, here!
a session with a P.O can be 2 hours or more.
Hard work of all involved, but very, very rewarding!
When you see the results, you are motivated to maintain!

Let me know please if you'd like to hear more Smile

Sparkly,

How much do you charge that was the original question of the thred.

I don't really understand how it can go by session and not your. Because say you charge $35 how does that cover more than an hour? I thought most professional organizers charge by the hour? What if someone's house is very disorganized and it takes 5 hours how would that cost the same price who needs you an hour to organize her spices?
