Meaty cabbage soup
1/2 lb meat bones
6 cups water
2 (14oz) bags cabbage
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
place meat bones and water in a 4 qt pot and bring to a boil over a medium-high flame. Add the rest of the ingredients, reduce heat to low and cook for 2 hrs.

Chunky Red Lentil Soup
1 (16 oz) bag red lentils
1/2 cup barley
1 onion
4 cloves garlic
15 cups water
4 stalks celery,diced
4 carrots diced
2 zucchini diced
1 leek, white part only, diced
2 T salt
1/2 t pepper
place the lentils and barley in an 8 qt pot. place onion and garlic in a net bag then add to the pot with the water and bring to a boil over medium-high flame. reduce heat of low and simmer for 1 hour. After 1 hour, remove the onion and garlic and add the celery, carrots, zucchini, leek salt and pepper. Cook for an additional 2 hrs.
