Need advice on how to tackle this further. Since last year, my 4 year old DS keeps getting ear infections and strep throat. I've been to an ENT who recommended tubes, but even more so, removing tonsils. I firmly believe that all this is coming due to a low immune system and don't wish to go the surgery route. I've tried some natural immune boosters, but so far have not been successful.
Since he's constantly sick, he keeps giving it over to the other kids, as ping pong effect. I'm biting my lips, but I have been to Dr at least once every week this winter so far. It hurts me even more to be giving all those meds one week after the next.
I've also visited an allergy specialist who ruled out allergies.

For my children "Panto C with elderberry" worked. Its a Kiddie Max product. As soon as a see there noses are acting up I give it to them and have seen great results. I would recommend a second opinion with a ent.

BTDT. I can't tell how how strongly I agree with your doctor. Once strep makes it's home in your tonsils, you pretty much have it forever. The only way to get rid of it is to take out the tonsils and adenoids, and put in the ear tubes.

DD was like a whole new child after surgery. Not only was she 100x healthier, her behavior improved SO much. She was a lot happier, more cooperative, and did a lot better in school.

I was the last person to run for surgery. But after all the sleepless nights, 8 months back and forth on antibiotics, I knew that sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I saw a top ENT in nyc who didn't automatically jump to surgery and gave me an alternative route to try first before surgery route. But since that didn't work we opted (and he recommended) surgery. Best decision.

The immune boosters are great, but. Only if the diet doesn't contraindicate. Using food with high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and food coloring will not let any immune boosters do their job. First and foremost is a healthy diet free of junk food. Then, and only after a healthy diet is implemented on a regular basis will other natural theories be able to work well.
Yes, it does work for strep. My own experience with vitamins were that if I started early in the winter with multi and vitamin c, my kids (all of them) didn't get ear infections or strep. A few years in a row before they did get as you say, every week another visit to the doctor for these very issues. I started the vitamins and they worked for a few years in a row. Then I thought it might just have been the luck of those years, so I stopped what I thought is ridiculous. Meaning, to give something that has no research, is sometimes difficult to do, and costs lots of money. That very year, my kids started with infections again. So I learned to ignore research, and other stuff and just go by my experience regardless of what others say.

just do it. My daughter was on antibitoics ever 3 weeks. We took out her tonsils 2 winters ago, I think she was on antibiotics twice since and the most recent one was because she caught something from ME.

I happen to be a health freak. No high fructose, juices, or extra carbs.
Panto c didn't help.
I give my kids all year around vitamin c, d, and multis.

And, since my kids keep catching it from one another, does that mean pulling tonsils from all of them??

start with the kid who is infecting the others. give it a few months and see what happens. I'm doing my second kid IY"H this week-2 years later.

one isn't related to the other. The pulmo/gastro/ent all agree that sometimes it does tend to run in families. Both my kids have sleep apnea. My daughter had tons of strep, my son gets sinus infections and bronchitis all the time which are related to the adenoids. His tonsils are also huge.

Every kid is different.
From personal experience, what worked for one child with chronic ear infections did not work for the next.
With one, I went to a chiropractor in Williamsburg, that's what finally helped him. He originally had tubes, they fell out within the year and his ears filled with fluid again right away. That's when I discovered the chiropractor who helped us. BTW, the ent told us that he has scar tissue in his ear that can be caused by the ear infections or the tubes or a combination and too much of that can cause hearing loss. So it seems like a bandaid solution.
My next kid had chronic ear infections every two weeks. I took him for biodynamic craniosacral therapy after the chiropractic did not work. When I saw he was still getting ear infections, I took him to an allergist, at my pediatrician's urging. Turns out he was highly allergic to eggs. He was nursing. When I went off eggs, he stopped getting ear infections, and B"H has been clear for a few months. It may be the craniosacral gave a boost but the eggs were the cause.
Good luck!

It's so hard when your kids are sick, refuah shleimah! I had a similar situation, my ds was having constant ear infections, we finally got him tubes, but it actually got worse, the tubes filled with fluid and he was in agony. We found out that his sinuses were filled with fluid too and the dr. Wanted to give him sinus surgery-ouch! I finally went the alternative route, took him to a chiropractor who also practices NAET this is a way to eliminate allergies not the typical ones that show up at an allergist office. He also does craniosacral therapy. We saw him several times and my sons ears and sinuses completely cleared. We also tried to stay off dairy, hope this helps.

Thx for your suggestions. I really think will try to find a chiropractor. Let's see where that takes us.

Not all chiropractors are the same. I found the ones that made a difference had some sort of popping tool that they used to drain the ear.

the day after sonny boy would be finished medicine his fever and strep would uproar yet again ... the only way to deal with this was with prophylactic drugs ... but this was only while we awaited the surgery ... you can't have a kid function while being lethargic with fever & strep all the time ...

yup. we finished 6 weeks of meds for a really bad chronic sinus infection. its less than 4 weeks later and he has bronchitis again. The dr put him on something prohylacticly to cover him till surgery but it didn't cover bronchitis... Sad so we had to change.

BTDT! You should for sure work on building up their immune sytem and trying to eliminate dairy from their diet. Dairy builds up fluid in the body and contributes to the fluid in the ear which keeps getting infected. I had the same situation with my son, as a baby he kept on getting recurring ear infections and dr. was recommending tubes. At around 11 months he had another bad infection, I decided I have one last chance to stop this cycle before the tubes surgery, I had heard that you can really build up an immune system with good quality vitamins and reducing dairy and sugar from diet. I started him on Shaklee vitamins with a knowledgeable shaklee distributor/nutritionist guiding me and after 10 days on it we went back to the dr. who said his infection is gone and fluid also totally cleared up. I was so excited, couldn't believe the vitamins actually worked to completely fight off an infection. I continued giving him shaklee's vitamin c and children's multi and he never got another ear infection again BH. Since then we use their products alot, they have really good quality stuff.
So that nutritionist had taught me that you really need to constantly build up and support the immune system with good nutrition (which includes food and vitamins) and doing the tubes would have been like a band-aid, you're not really getting to the source of the problem because the weak immune system is still there, you haven't done anything to change it, it'll just manifest its aches and pains somewhere else.
Good luck, it's not such an easy route but it's definitely the right route.

And I'm just adding this because I see a previous poster wrote there's no research on vitamins. It really depends what brand you take. I chose Shaklee because I heard they have hundreds of clinical tests and studies done on their products constantly proving purity, safety, efficacy, absorption etc. and most other companies do not, so you really can trust them.

I was happier to go for surgery than to give antibiotics so often.

this. you have to give medication for strep. constant ear infections can lead to hearing loss. My kid suffered so much till we did his tubes and everyone around him is suffering from his constant bronchitis and sleep apnea. He has been on antibiotics almost every day since he was born. It has to stop. Boosting immune systems won't help if there is a physical reason he keeps getting sick- wd40 won't help a leaky pipe.

DD and I passed strep back and forth for a year and a half, and we were both on antibiotics more often than not (and I had to supplement with tons of Diflucan to keep the yeast infections at bay). Neither of us ate any dairy, I strictly controlled sugar, and no artificial colors or flavors in anything.

I ended up getting Scarlet Fever, and nearly ended up in the hospital. I've never been so sick in my life! Sad BTW, I had my tonsils out when I was 5, and I kept getting strep anyway.

Once DD got her tonsils out, neither of us has had strep again (BH, BYH, ptew ptew ptew!)

I would suggest finding out who has the worst tonsils and getting them taken care of, and then work backwards from there. You may find that the next youngest may need them out eventually, or you may not.
