I'm asking because I'm shopping for Shabbos clothing and I'm not sure if a shorter dress to go over a longer skirt is still a fashionable option...for awhile it seemed to be.

I never liked the look and I haven't seen it around too much.

By and large I liked the look. I heard it's become in to add a border at the bottom if it will work with the dress. I've seen some that look really nice.

I love the look over a solid color, below the knee pencil skirt.

sorry to tell you but its completely out. now its the new thing to a add a strip of material to the bottom so it looks like it came with it (which I happen to like better).

What do you mean by the 'strip of material'- do you mean they lengthened the tunics into tsnius-length dresses in their own right?

Are they out in Israel, too? I haven't been paying close attention to fashion lately, but it seems to me I've still seen them in stores.

Yes. Walk into Galina the tailor and you'll see every girl and woman there with material to lengthen their short dresses. Either they buy two of the same if it was cheap. Or they buy any other material that matches. Most time solid black, but a lot of people go to a fabric store with their short dress and get very creative with colors and stuff. It actually can get fun.
I like this look much better than the pencil skirt under.

Just curious when people ask if a look is "in" are they referring to Brooklyn?

I think the dresses with borders usually do look better. (And btw, I'm oot but got the memo ) I stil l think the dresses over skirts look was great, almost always very tznius and a fun option for those for whom it would work.
