I have a 1 year old who has fever (100-101) from teething. He is getting about 6 teeth at ones, the back big, painful ones and a couple of others. He does not eat at all during the day or play. He basically slept all day. Is it safe to give him motrin every 6 hours for more than 1 day? Otherwise he cries and won't sleep and the only other thing is to hold him and walk around with him over my shoulder. Is there such a thing as too much motrin in a certain amount of time? If I don't give it, then he burns up with fever and is inconsolably fussy and won't sleep or allow me to put him down.

Have you tried giving a bath? 100 is not really a high tempature for a baby, so don't try to fight that fever. I would only give it strictly for comfort. No medicine is great to give, better to try to find alternatives.

I agree with the above post.
If you do want to give it, you're better off alternating between Motrin and Tylenol.

yes you can it is safe and fine. not saying give medicine all day, but if the baby is uncomfortable - teething HURTS! - it is totally safe. I have had to do this when my babies were miserable for a few days until the actual ear infection - or whatever illness was coming - came out

You can always ask your doctor but it should be fine. But when you say he does not eat at all, I hope that you mean that he is drinking. Because babies can easily become dehydrated.

I never understood why people ask medical questions on an anonymous website. The obvious answer is ask ur doctor or even ur local pharmacist. Imagine if chas veshalom something would happen because of the dose and u would be asked why you thought you were allowed to give that dosage to ur baby. You would then answer " someone on imamother said it was OK" Really???

I agree, that's how I do it, two days is not the worst thing but after two days tops take the child to a dr. and then do what the dr. advises if the child's fever still does not go away. Also check before giving he medicine when it's due because even if 6 hours passed if the fever did not come back yet you don't have to administer the medication...
