For kitchen dinette - what's better? Wood or metal chairs? Thanks.

Personally I wanted to buy an awesome retro dinette set for my kitchen. Durable and so cute. But it was over $2,000. In the end I bought a wood table and wooden chairs with gabric. Table is always kept covered with a vinyl pad thing. Chairs are fine so far but I don't expect it to last forever with 4 young kids. But this set was a floor model and cost under $700. I hope one day to have a kitchen island we can sit at instead. We shall see.
