My new apt. has several really large closets with just one shelf on top. There is no closet of only shelves. One closet has become a huge dumping ground for everything (iron, cleaning supplies, shopping cart, paper towels, boxes of kleenex, soap, spare bags) and it's hard to find stuff and it's making me nervous. Any suggestions for this?
TIA!

Buy a shelving unit and put it inside the closet.

If someone in your household is handy you can install shelves. Home depot sells finished shelving and brackets. A drill is needed to hang. I fill all available spaces in closets with these shelves.

I would love to, but noone is handy. I thought of that but ruled it out.
Might look for shelving units for the closet though.
thanks

You really don't need to be that handy to put up a few shelves. It would be a good skill to learn.
A handier friend taught us an even easier trick for putting shelves into a closet that was especially difficult (due to size/location/configuration, very narrow so hard to get in to do anything fancy): Bought wood at Home Depot. Had it cut to desired shelf sizes. Cut the leftover wood into pieces as long as the space we wanted between shelves. Starting at the bottom of the closet, use strong wood glue or nails to attach some of those leftover pieces to the wall of the closet, rest one shelf on top of those. Repeat: bang up some of the leftover pieces on top of the new shelf, then rest the next shelf on top of that. Really hard to mess this one up! Especially since you have the guys at HD cut it for you so you know the heights of the sticks are uniform.
