I need to buy linen for my bedroom- but when I'm looking I don't understand the choices- is it better to get 100% cotton or wrinkle free? What does 300 thread count mean... Any good places to buy for a reasonable price in brooklyn- thanks for your help

are you into comfort or looks? 100% cotton is way more comfortable than permanent press because it is absorbent and gets softer with use. Perm press will pill and that makes it feel rough and look awful. wrinkle-free cotton is cotton that has been coated with a chemical--often a formaldehyde resin--to make it shed wrinkles. this coating effectively nilifies the main attractions of cotton, which are that it is natural, soft, and absorbent. I would avoid wrinkle-free cotton for bedding.

Thread count means how many threads there are per square inch. 100 count would mean 10 thread crosswise and 10 threads up and down. Higher thread counts mean finer thread, tighter weave, and smoother texture. 180 count is junk, even more so if it's part synthetic; 300 count is OK. Astronomical thread counts of 600 to 1000 are around and very expensive. These are considered "luxury" bedding.

I know theres a baily hirsch in crown heights who sells linen from her house so the prices are considerably cheaper than a regular store.

Cotton sateen the most comfortable if you take it out of the dryer as soon as it's dry won't be creased. 718 236 2613 sells stunning linen. Suedes are also very in and dreamy looking

I totally disagree about cotton sateen. I find sateen to be a horrible fabric that becomes sleazy-looking after a few washes, whether it is bedding or clothing, and would never buy it again.
