If I downgrade my Windows 8 to Windows 7, will I be missing out on anything? I have a regular laptop, no touch screen. Are there any features that are really that much better than Windows 7?

It's a completely different system to get used to with no added benefits.

I have windows 8 and wish I had windows 7 instead. There's nothing good about windows 8, and it's so hard to figure out how to do some of the simplest tasks.

I have windows 8 and I find that it works just as easily, everything is done on the desktop just like windows 7.
If you have a Brooklyn library card you can do tutorials at Lynda.com for windows 8.

Windows 8 is amazing for a touchscreen device, and if you're willing to give it a chance. You need to get used to the new version.
Basically windows 8 has two main screens, the apps section and the desktop. The apps are easier to use with a touchscreen, but for people who want a simple laptop it's annoying to have that coming up again and again. The desktop also is missing the start button, which makes finding apps a bit confusing.
I heard that windows 8.1 has the ability to disable the annoying feature and funtion almost exactly like windows 7. Has anyone tried that?

I'm used to the windows 8 by now. No problems with it. Be sure to download a start button.

I use both. 7 at home and 8 at work. I'm pretty used to it by now but I prefer 7. I can see why someone using a tablet or touch screen would prefer 8 though.

You probably meant that everyone you know who has it hates it.
On a tablet it's pretty great. I love the new look and the large buttons for my clumsy fingers.

Windows 8 was optimized for touchscreens. No touchscreen, no advantage. With touchscreen, I don't hate it but I'm still getting used to it. I get disoriented because I switch back and forth with an older computer.

I don't have the start button - but use search a lot, it is easier in a way
for the rest I mainly use the desktop which is no different than 7

Make sure you don't void your warranty before you change your OS. I did that back in the era of Vista when I downgraded to XP.
