I have an upscale MO wedding coming up and I don't know what to expect. I've only been to chassidish or very yeshivish weddings until now. We have become very close to this family.
My main concern is what to wear. I don't have anything fashionable and haven't bought anything for ages. I want to take this opportunity to get myself something that looks more modern. Do you have any advice.
I'm young and slender. I also have a tight budget.
I feel stupid asking my friends what to wear IRL. Besides, they would probably tell me it doesn't matter.

Just wear a black dress, fancy jewelry and some nice makeup and you'll be fine.

If you have time to order a fancy shawl, that will give you that evening look. Light in the Box has lots of them.
You can get an evening purse from them at the same time. This won't be a lot of money.

I think you should wear what you always wear.

I like the idea of wearing something classic that works for you, and updating the look with accessories.
Depending on the crowd, you may see any or all of the following: a lot of people dressed just like your usual; or outfits similar, but fewer shaitels; or suits with shorter skirts; or designer type style formalwear. This time of year, everyone dresses more tsnius for warmth. You may see more sparkly things, or colors that are less often worn in a yeshivish or chassidish crowd. And higher heels.
Go and enjoy! People should hav more important things on their mind than critiquing your look.

PSA: You can go to an "upscale MO" wedding without wearing heels. The ability (and desire) to wear heels is not a requirement for entry into the MO club.

Just want to point out that you don't have to wear black to a mo wedding! Ime most of the younger women especially wear dresses and heels.

Pretty much anything goes. Wear something that you feel good in. Don't worry about what others think. You can't go wrong with a LBD so if you feel unsure go with that.
