Goes to bed at about 9:10 or so, but usually doesn’t fall asleep until closer to 10.

Supposed to be 8:30, but its usually lights out at 8:45. He needs to wake up at 7:00 to make his 8:00 bus.

7:30 bed. 8pm lights off. 9 year old boy and girl.
My kids really need lots of sleep and we do our best to get everyone in bed early. If we to to bed late they catch a second wind and it's really hard to get them to fall asleep.

Op here.
My 8 year old(almost 9) goes into bed after 8 but never falls asleep before 9, many nights closer to 10.
I'm trying to see if that's crazy because he is very tired during the day. But I didn't think it's a late bedtime for him.

Both my 2 middle kids - boy who is 9 and girl who is 7 don't fall asleep until 9:30/10 or so. I thought that was crazy at first - so late! But than I did the math that they get up around 7:30 and that is pretty much 10 hours of sleep - normal for kids that age. When I get my act together, maybe I'll start waking them up earlier, so they'll go to sleep earlier...
OTOH, my almost 12 year old is completely OUT by 8:45 or so and up by 7:15, so his body must need a bit more sleep.

In bed between 7:30 - 8:00. Lights out between 7:45 - 8:30.
I have a 7 year old and 8 year old boy going to sleep at that time. They are almost always asleep by 9:00.

I try to have him in bed by 8:30, he reads for 1/2 an hour then lights out at 9. But I am always going into his room taking away his flashlight or book or whatever he is doing instead of going to sleep.

I should add I wake him at 7 am an he is not happy about getting up, so he definitely needs more sleep.

At around that age, two of my kids started having issues falling asleep. Also, took a REALLY long time. One of my kids is ADHD so his mind is always going places and is hard to "turn off" (even before he started taking medication, he had trouble falling asleep). My other kid, regular but also has a hard time since around age 8. My pediatrician recommended melatonin and it's been great. It really helps them not toss and turn for ages and ages.
