my 3 1/2 year old daughter caught chicken pox from a classmate in school. shes so itchy and irritable, my heart goes out to her just look at her. Can anyone suggest any home remedies that relieves the itching, I did a baking soda bath already, and gave benadryl, but that didnt do much.
Also, how long from when the pimples come out, does it take for it to dry up and not be contagious anymore?

About a week.

Coconut oil --1/4 cup with 25 drops lavender oil, 5 drops peppermint oil, 2 drops clove oil. Oatmeal bath than rub on lotion after bath.

If you recognize the chickenpox early on, give aconite. This will bring it to an end very quickly, without compromising the immunity benefits of getting chickenpox

Homeopathy: rhus tox 30X 3x/day for 2 days to alleviate itching and chamomilla

Do not use calamine lotion as it suppresses the virus from exiting the body.

Make sure you are not under dosing the Benadryl. Contagious until the last of the pox crust over.

1. Keep her very cool, dressed in minimum e.g. a loose undershirt of daddy's & house temp as cool as you can

2. Oatmeal baths

3. Vitamin E on each new pink spot before it erupts - it will stop the eruption! Not sure how much it will help for existing spots.

4. The herb Larrea - check with your health food store or on-line

Shaklee's Basic H. I put some in the bath for my dc to soak in. I also used a q-tip to dab it (undiluted) onto each one directly and it dried them up literally overnight.

Calamine, Ruchel.

It's not a good idea though, as it suppresses the virus from leaving the body through the pox (from what I have been told).
