I recently got divorced, and I'm feeling a lot of pressure to look great this Yom Tov. However, all my clothing is old and outdated, and I'm not at all up to speed on the latest styles. I would really appreciate if anyone could clue me in... Links to specific tops/ skirts would be greatly appreciated. I live in Brooklyn, and can afford to spend what it costs, though not over the top... Names of stores also appreciated. My style tends to be more classy as opposed to trendy, but I want to look up to date. Thanks! Smile

I love Talbots, especially for Yomtov clothes. Well fitting, classy yet stylish.

Fit and flare dresses like the ones in the links can be found everywhere this season. I've seen them in department stores, mall stores, designer boutiques and outlet stores. Many of them are long enough. Buy a matching shrug or cardigan, and it's an easy comfortable outfit. The same can be done with any sheath dress.

Thanks! I guess I really am clueless because I can't imagine what kind of cardigan would go with such dresses? Im picturing button down, but to me that looks ridiculous ( in my mental picture )

I have a few of these, and similar to this, in different colors.

I've also done regular length button down cardigans, unbuttoned over a dress, if the style allowed it.

Ladies, up to what age do you think these fit & flare dresses are appropriate? And what size?
(As a lady close to 60 and size XL or 2XL, I doubt they'd look right on me, but I'm curious...)

What kind of skirts do you like? Pencil skirts or ones with a little more flare? Floral prints or plaids or solids or polka dots?
To me it seems that anything and everything goes these days, so it all depends on what kind of outfits you feel comfortable in. Look around, as greenfire says, try on everything until you find something you love.

Also, remember that your shoes are most important in making you look put together and sophisticated. My favorite now is a pointy toe pump in a midsize heel, or higher if you are comfortable in those.

I'm fine with more flary skirts. All the tops I see seems to be floral these days, and I'm not really comfortable with that, maybe because it feels very loud, or colors are too bright. If I found something in more muted / neutral colors, I might go for it. Which colors are in?

Thanks for the tip about the shoes. I totally agree that they make the outfit. Unfortunately, I can only wear flats most of the time ... Can't handle the pain that comes with dress shoes.

Different question. With a flary skirt, would you wear a floral top tucked in? Or out?

What colors are in:
Pretty much anything. Specifically: Blues, corals, floral, and neutrals

Tucked in or out: It totally depends on the outfit, whether the top will look neat tucked in, or if it will bunch up; and whether the skirt has a nice design on top that I don't want to hide etc. etc,

I'm not in Brooklyn but I'm seeing bright colors, lace, florals here too for spring.

With volume on the bottom (flarey skirt) I would do a more fitted shirt tucked in.

If you're not sure of what look you like you really can't go wrong with a black or any solid colored pencil skirt pretty blouse, and nice shoes and jewelry.

There is hardly anyone that would look good in the first dress unless they are a single digit size and they were a teen or early 20s. It is too girly. I am an 8 and that dress is cut wrong to be flattering.

Check out macy's, lord n taylor and Nordstrom. You can also check out style sites such as polyvore or shopstyle (just type in the item you are searching for, and items from various stores will pop up- you can filter for the price, color, and style you want)

Some ideas:

Can't beat the price! Wear with an embroidered or lace style cream colored top
http://us.asos.com/ASOS-Midi-S.....10607

The pink one can be worn with darker pink, off white, crisp white, coral, or other colors. The navy would look sharp with a white or off white top and perhaps gold shoes.

Pair this with one of the above navy skirts, and either a shell underneath, or a navy, off white, yellow, or teal cardigan

This one is pricey but supercute. I can see it with a pink skirt, or with a black skirt for a sharp look. (Btw, if you sign up for Piperlime's emails, you can get 30% off I think.)

If you live in brooklyn I would just go to Brendas and ask one of the saleswoman who work there to help you pick out a few yom tov outfits. They can guide you in the right direction and tell you what looks good on you. Plus its so close to yom tov you wont have to order online and then run return what doesnt work.
