I'm having a hard time trying to find a top to go with this black and cream/white abstract skirt. I have a black blazer but I need something under it besides a shell. any ideas? thanks

good idea but it's more of a creamy white than a bright white

It's difficult to see in the picture but oftentimes in such a case, you can get away with it. If you wear white, the skirt will assume a whiter look; if you wear cream, the skirt will appear more yellowish.
Alternatively, you can do a cream colored lace crop top on top of a similarly colored shell.

I'd actually wear a contrasting bright color, like kelly green or coral.

I actually own a burgundy button down "silk" shirt! but I feel like it'll darken the whole outfit.....its meant for summer. what do you think about pale pink?

Cool skirt!
Pale pink would go with it, imo (as long as it's a solid color). So would brighter solid colors such as coral, turquoise, neon yellow... (But I would stay away from a top with a different colored shell- that's too many colors. I would try to find a long sleeved top in one color.)

That's what I'd probably do. To my eye, a bright shirt would compete too much with the pattern of the skirt. (Then again, I'm a conservative dresser when it comes to combining colors.) But a pop of color elsewhere would be nice.

I vote for a nifty black top and the black blazer. You will look understated and you need to. That is a very busy skirt. It's cute, but I don't think it wants to talk to anybody. Let it have the stage to itself.
Just my humble opinion.
Plain legs, plain black shoes.
My preference is for "who me? what, this old thing?" I like a Who Me attitude. Down, girl, down.
